Ever wanted to vacay in a galaxy far, far away? Well, sadly, the Millenium Falcon won’t be taking you to the Dagobah System in less than 12 parsecs — pardon the nerdy mixed analogies — any time soon, but here are some real-world places that will give you an experience that will turn you into a scruffy-looking nerf-hearder!
Tatooine: Nafta, Tunisia and Death Valley National Park, USA
Home to Skywalkers young and old, sunny Tatooine — seriously, it has two suns — is the desert jewel of the galaxy. If you want to find that magical place where you can blast womp rats all day long, Nafta offers a beautiful, historical oasis setting and the real-life backdrop for the Mos Eisley Space Port. On the other hand, if you’re up for braving a more notorious location, Jabba’s Palace can be found in Death Valley National Park, California.
Hoth: Hardangerjøkulen, Norway
Be careful of wampas when you visit Hardangerjøkulen! This Norwegian glacier is where you will find the ice planet Hoth, site of one of the most important battles of the rebellion. Make sure to pay your respects to the fallen storm-troopers, rebels, and droids when you visit this former war zone.
Endor: Redwood National Park, USA
The Redwood National Park in California is home to some of the largest trees in the world, but did you know it’s also home to a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That’s right, the forest moon of Endor exists right there in northern Cali, making it one of the most accessible (and scenic) Star Wars destinations available. And odds are, you won’t be vaporized by that imminent Death Star blast — I know, I know…never tell you the odds…
Bonus: The Skywalker Ranch, California and Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire
George Lucas may have given up Star Wars (about three movies too late), but that doesn’t mean you can pass up a visit to his home, The Skywalker Ranch. But while you might give your right hand for a tour, access to the ranch is harder than escaping a box of carbonite!
And don’t forget about Pinewood Studios, where interiors for the whole trilogy were filmed!
